Lord Street, Southport'BESIDE THE SEASIDE'

Grace Landscapes were pleased to have been selected as the landscaper for this very prestigious contract in such a delightful location.  Lord Street in Southport is a nationally recognised, historical area known for its spectacular floral displays, Victorian architecture, shops and arcades.

The contract commenced with the felling of 31 mature trees, access to the areas was a major problem due to the roads around the areas being ‘live’ with a one way traffic system The trees were felled whilst the site was live and open to the public requiring traffic management along Lord Street and protection measures for the public in the garden areas.. The existing mature shrub planting was removed from the gardens prior to repairing / replacing of the ornamental walling and balustrade by specialist contractors. Careful planning and programming was necessary to interface with the other contractors carrying of the paving, lighting and monument refurbishment.

46 semi-mature Quercus robur 20-25cm girth were planted in the gardens and paved areas. Trees in the paved areas have had root cells incorporated into the pits and traffic management was carried out during the works. Services in the pavement necessitated re-locating of 15 trees and the fitting of root barriers to the pits.

Shrub beds were filled with pre-mixed soil and compost and planted with 21 specimen topiary box cones, 1381 specimen shrubs, 2711 shrubs, 40 specimen climbers and 2012 herbaceous plants. 5622 ornamental bulbs were planted in the beds and grass areas

The lawns were top soiled and turfed with a hard wearing fine turf from a local grower in Southport to ensure establishment in the seaside conditions. The lawns are maintained to a high standard with weekly cutting, regular scarifying, aeration, top dressing, application of fertiliser, selective herbicide and watering to keep the sward looking healthy. All of the trees and shrubs are watered regularly during the growing season to aid establishment.
