Grace Landscapes' Luke Plass and Mrs London

Luke Plass and Mike Cawley have been hailed heroes after saving an elderly woman’s animals from a burning barn.  The pair were on their way to work at the Moore Depot on Moss Lane at 6.00am when they spotted smoke coming from the barn in the neighbouring field.  They called the fire brigade, but knowing there were animals that slept in the barn over night, they went to check they were okay.  As they got closer, they could hear a lot of noise and banging in the barn and so without any thought of the danger to themselves the pair helped the Shetland ponies, chickens and goats to safety before returning to remove the contents of the store room including bales of hay, horse tack and feeding bins.

Phyllis London, seen here with Luke, said ‘You have two very public spirited and also very brave chaps working at Grace Landscapes.  But for them I could have lost everything and owe them a deep debt of gratitude’
