Training & Development
At Grace landscapes we go that extra mile to help our staff develop themselves. We have never knowingly underestimated the value of our workforce who have helped us get to where we are now. The company has always had a great interest in horticultural training and in the employment of horticultural graduates.
Today Grace Landscapes is one of the industry leaders in training provision. In the early 1990’s re-organisation of the training provision in FE Colleges lead to a closure of a number of horticultural courses -“everybody talked about training but nobody did it.” Unable to outsource the companies training requirements, Tim Grace decided to “plough his own furrow” and in 1999 set up a self-contained training facility at the Mirfield site.
The scheme is co-ordinated by fully trained staff and we are a registered centre with City and Guilds / NPTC to provide training across a number of different qualifications. In 2003 and again in 2006 the centre was inspected under the OFSTED system and was awarded a Grade 2, being mentioned as a “very good training provider in the subsequent reports.
Today we employ up ten 16-19 year old Apprentices each year from within the company and from other landscape companies in the region as well as offering QCF Qualifications to adult employees through the Train to Gain system. The Apprentices complete a full LANTRA Apprenticeship Framework that includes a new QCF award, Health and Safety, First Aid, Functional Skills and an NPTC Certificate as well as receiving specific in-company training in a wide variety of Landscaping skills.
The qualifications we offer are:-
LANTRA Apprenticeships and Advanced Apprenticeships in Amenity Horticulture.
QCF Level 2 Diploma (0065-23) in Work-based Horticulture (Landscaping)
QCF Level 3 Diploma (0065-33) in Work-based Horticulture (Landscaping)
